The Canadian Anti Spam Legislation (CASL) is the world's first opt-in or "consent-based" system, meaning you require consent in order to send someone a business email. It goes further by mandating a working unsubscribe and full transparency in every email: who is sending it and how can I reach that person?
The standards enforced in CASL are no different than a good marketer would consider best practices in a customer-centric environment, yet many organizations are experiencing difficulties implementing a compliant program. Fact is, proof was not required prior to CASL. Now it is the cornerstone of a compliant program. Proof of consent. Proof of every email sent. Proof of 3rd party agreements.
